About Boost CYAC
Boost CYAC is an innovative community response to child abuse investigations and interventions. A partnership among community and government agencies, it brings together all professionals involved in child abuse cases under one roof, for a coordinated, interdisciplinary response to child abuse victims in Toronto. In addition to housing Toronto’s only child & youth advocacy centre, Boost CYAC offers a number of direct services including, primary prevention, public education, trauma assessment and therapy and court preparation for child witnesses.
History of the Organization
Boost CYAC was first established in 1981 by Paul Godfrey (the Metropolitan Chairman at the time) as The Metropolitan Toronto Chairman’s Special Committee on Child Sexual Abuse. It later became an organization under the name, The Special Committee on Child Abuse. In 1997, the Special Committee was renamed Toronto Child Abuse Centre and expanded its mandate to address all forms of child abuse. Ten years later, the agency was renamed Boost Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention with the tagline “We Give Kids A Lift When They Need It The Most.” Once the child & youth advocacy centre was established, the name was changed once more to better reflect the programs and services offered by the multidisciplinary teams.
